Masks in Healthcare
As part of our campaign to keep and strengthen healthcare mask requirements, we’re flooding MLAs, the Ministry of Health and other key policy-makers with phone messages. Placing a call just takes a few seconds, and can be one of the most effective ways to reach policy-makers. Here’s what to do:
Get your MLA’s phone number here and find phone numbers for other key policy-makers here. Some top picks:
- BC Health Minister: 250-953-3547
- PHO Office: 250-952-1330
- BC CDC: 604-707-2400
- BC Premier: 250-387-1715
Then, leave a phone message like this:
“Hello, this is ——— from postal code ———.
I’m calling to ask you to help restore mask requirements in healthcare. These protections have already returned in Newfoundland, Labrador, PEI and major Quebec hospitals due to viral surges across Canada – and without consistent protection in BC, [I can’t safely get medical care / my loved one is at risk / as a healthcare worker I face unnecessary risks.]
We also need to close gaps in the rules, like using N95 style masks as the default – a practice supported by over 1,700 experts, advocates, and major unions.
You can learn more at DoNoHarmBC.ca. There’s no need to call me back / I’d appreciate a callback, my number is —————-.”
That’s it! (And yes, you can adapt the message – just keep it short, and include your postal code for politicians so they know you’re a constituent. We also recommend ensuring that messages aren’t unkind or offensive – ordinary staff are the ones who receive these, and must convey them to politicians.)
Novavax Now
To demand access to Novavax, use the script below.
A key person to speak to is the BCCDC’s lead pharmacist: call 604-707-2400, press 6 and ask the operator.
“Hello, my name is ______ from postal code ______.
I am calling to ask that you work to ensure access for all British Columbians to Novavax’s newest COVID vaccine as soon as possible. For some folks in BC, this protein-based vaccine is the only option they can tolerate; meaning that without it, they can’t get vaccinated at all. This is a matter of safety and health equity for some of the most vulnerable amongst us.
You can learn more about this issue at DoNoHarmBC.ca.
There’s no need to call me back/please call me back, my number is ___-___-____.”
